The Woodsmiths recommends Hi-Build Resin as the premier finish for durability and low maintenance, as its flexible, fully sealed coating provides superior resistance to impact, stains, heat, and water in high-wear kitchen and sink areas. However, if your budget is tight or you are surfacing a low-wear area, a polish finish is highly suitable. Alternatively, if you want to keep initial costs down, do not mind regular ongoing upkeep, and prefer the most natural look and feel of the timber grain, an oil finish is your best option.

Yes. If no particular timber species is the colour you want, benchtops can be stained before being finished with Hi-Build Resin, Two-Pack Lacquer or G4. Choose from our stain range or request a custom colour match. As timber is a natural material, the final colour will vary depending on the species, grain and density.

The smooth, sealed resin surface is designed for easy everyday maintenance. We recommend cleaning with warm water and a microfibre cloth, using non-abrasive cleaners as required. Benchtop Wax can also be applied to restore the original sheen.

In many cases, yes. We can sand back and recoat existing timber benchtops, including older Generation IV finishes, giving them a new lease on life. We can also help with transport nationwide and removal and reinstallation in the Northland and Auckland regions where required.

Yes. If the timber meets our moisture requirements, we can transform existing timber or slabs into new benchtops, tables, shelves or other surfaces. Note we cannot supply a warranty on benchtops we do not supply timber for.
